Sam Lord’s Castle, once an iconic landmark, is now a charred skeleton.

The structure was built by the infamous pirate Sam Lord. Legend has it, Sam Lord used lanterns to lure ships into treacherous reefs. Sailors, mistaking the lanterns for a lighthouse or safe harbor, would shipwreck thereby allowing Sam Lord to collect the loot. In more recent history, the castle-mansion was converted to a resort. However, after a few years of development issues and financial decline the castle went up in flames in 2010. Currently, restoration efforts are underway. However, it’s still possible to walk the grounds and the see shores where Sam Lord turned the tides to his advantage.
