Coming Soon: Nature, Curated

A single red rose in a brass urn. The urn is set in a carved stone niche in a brick wall at Filoli.

From the grounds at Versailles to the gardens at Generalife, humans have long tried to bend nature to our will. Whether it’s used as a display of might or to create a slice of paradise on earth, the results can be breathtaking. Over the next couple weeks I’ll be looking back at encounters with nature and the incredible forms it can take when ‘curated’. Like art, nature can be used to express a range of ideas and even identities. However, nature is by no means a blank canvas. This is why it’s so interesting to see how gardeners, landscape architects, designers, planners, patrons, and more and have adapted their visions. What noteworthy gardens or landscapes have you visited?
